Hope in Action: Living in Times of Emergency and Emergence
Tue 3 Dec 2024 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM GMT
Online, Zoom
Description
A talk by Satish Kumar and reflective practices and discussions guided by Georgie Gilmore and Flo Scialom
We are living in deeply challenging times, marked by conflict, crises and collapse. Yet there are also signs of emergence, awakening and change; people and communities living in more regenerative ways; acts of solidarity and compassion gaining momentum through widespread movements for change.
How can we respond to both the suffering and the potential of these times? And what is the role of hope within this?
This event is part of a Hope in Action online series run by Resurgence and the Network of Wellbeing (NOW), inspired by Joanna Macy’s and Chris Johnstone’s work on Active Hope, alongside other transformative wisdom.
Tickets £8 (or £4 concessions)
This event will be followed by a retreat in South Devon 7-9 March 2025, which will integrate some of the big topics we explore. The retreat will help you to ‘Embody your role and purpose in a changing world’. You are welcome to join just this December event or the March retreat, but we encourage you to join for both.
Satish Kumar
Peace-pilgrim, life-long activist, and former monk, Satish Kumar has been inspiring global change for over 50 years. He undertook a pilgrimage for peace, walking for two years without money from India to America for the cause of nuclear disarmament. Now in his 80s, Satish has devoted his life to campaigning for ecological regeneration and social justice. He is a world-renown author and international speaker, founder of The Resurgence Trust and Editor Emeritus of Resurgence & Ecologist – a change-making magazine he edited for over 40 years.
Georgie Gilmore
Georgie weaves together guided-meditation/visualisation with self-reflection and Nature-connection practices to create journeys that serve to deepen our ways of relating to ourselves, to the rest of Nature and to ourselves as Nature. These journeys of rich self-enquiry and inner exploration inspire outward action and evoke insight, connection and change. Georgie is the Community Engagement Manager at The Resurgence Trust.
Flo Scialom
Flo is a freelance project manager and events facilitator who currently supports the Zen and the Art of Saving the Planet Online Course with Plum Village International Community of Engaged Buddhism. She previously worked as the Communications & Events Manager at the Network of Wellbeing (NOW). She also facilitates events and retreats with Spiritual Ecology Netherlands.
