We invite you to join our free guided meditations in January with a specific Earth Treasure as a focus. Mindfulness teacher Rowena will facilitate an absorbing and contemplative 30 minutes together every Friday at 8am GMT. Each calm and inspiring event will lead us in a uniquely focused meditation to inspire a deeper connection with our living world and ourselves. Various elements from different traditions and mindfulness techniques might be included, and it will be organic, unfolding naturally in the moment.
For each meditation you will need a different living, natural form in front of you that is close enough to see in detail, smell and touch/hold. We will be using all our senses with the natural phenomena we sit with, so that might also be ideal for those who have issues meditating with their eyes shut.
You may like to start each meditation by looking at the screen during the introduction, but then you will be given the opportunity to get comfortable in front of your Earth Treasure and will only need to hear Rowena’s words after that, rather than interacting with the screen.
8am Friday 10 January 2025: Meditation 1 – Wood
Meditating with a natural piece of wood is a lovely way to meet and come to know its value, its deep qualities and its ability to move you and your senses. Please find some structural tissue as found in stems and roots of trees and other woody plants. It might be part of your daily life already, or you might enjoy the journey of sourcing the piece of wood, driftwood, fallen or carved wood you choose to sit with. It doesn’t have to be a big piece. Please ensure that any creatures who may reside in it are safely hidden before you bring it in, or are left behind where you don’t have to worry about them during the meditation.
8am Friday 17 January 2025: Meditation 2 – Pebbles/Stones/Rocks
Small, rounded stones are often to be found on beaches and riverbeds, and you might have some special ones that people have given you that carry added meaning. You might have some geological or mineral samples, or even a rock sample from space that will be fascinating to sit with. Alternatively, please just use stones that can be found everywhere. Discover these unique entities in a lovely new way. How will we, and they, be changed by this experience together? Please aim to use a naturally occurring form, rather than a human-made rock-like substance such as concrete.
8am Friday 24 January 2025: Meditation 3 – Crystals
There are many beautiful crystals, one or more of which you might already have available to sit with without looking too far afield. Perhaps you have a selection of different crystal samples for healing, or a crystal set within a piece of jewellery. Many have vivid colours and are full of wonder and enchantment, but even the simplest of found stones that are broken open can reveal a seam of sparkle within that you can enjoy sitting with. Just to see a sliver is enough. Sit with one or many samples. Even sugar and salt have crystalline qualities to use if you have nothing else available. Discover these unique entities in a lovely new way.
8am Friday 31 January 2025: Meditation 4 – Fungi
Fungi have rich symbolism in various cultures and belief systems and belong to a scientific kingdom all of their own. They have unique ecological functions that set them apart from plants. Fungi represent transformation and renewal, symbolising the journey between life and death and also the ability to navigate challenges and change. Mushrooms are often linked to magic, enchantment, and hidden realms beyond our ordinary perception. Please find a safe, edible mushroom to sit with – what a fantastic friend to focus on for this last meditation on Earth Treasures!
