The Beauty of Plant Music - conversations with composer Alex H Duncan

Recording from the live event on Tuesday 22nd October 2024, 7-8.30pm BST

What does a conversation with a tree or flower sound like? How might we be changed once we have experienced the voices of the unheard plant world? Be immersed in this world with musician, composer and teacher Alex H Duncan, a passionate plant advocate who gives the living green world a voice when we are in desperate need of its undoubtable wisdom.

Alex talks about his work and answers questions from Mark Gough of the Resurgence Trust and the audience that evening. He describes how he has tuned into the tonal and rhythmic complexities of vegetal life and how doing so has changed his own. Celebrated composers like Terry Riley already follow his radio show Plant Noise and this is the exact radio show Alex refers to during this event regarding his conversation with Pete Yeo. You can see more about all of his work here.

Review from attendee Andy Billington at the live event:

"Alex is a generous teacher of plant music, ecology, tech and digital rewilding. He explained how he uses plants to harvest midi data, his forays into sound design off the back of this and how the people he comes into contact with have influenced him. His stories were interspersed with live music created by moss in front of us, which was turned into beautiful evolving, living soundscapes. Fascinating on many levels and certainly food for thought given how we are currently trashing our planet."
