Aware that the subject of climate breakdown can cast big shadows, we invited three inspiring international experts to offer positive insights for our heads, hands and hearts. Through the perspectives of science, action and healing, they bring knowledge, practical advice and inner nourishment, all without sugar-coating the serious nature of this topic.
21 April – Dr Thor Hanson - 'The Biology of Climate Change’
Thor Hanson is a biologist and author. In his presentation he will explore the fraught and fascinating ways that species are responding to the climate crisis by moving, adapting, and even evolving in real time, and how the sum of their reactions will determine the future.
19 May – Kaira Jewel Lingo - We Are Nature: Responding Joyfully and Rootedly to the Climate Crisis.

About the speakers:
Thor Hanson has studied Central American trees and songbirds, nest predation in Tanzania, and the habits of African vultures. He served as a volunteer in Uganda to help establish the mountain gorilla tourism programme in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, and helped manage a brown bear tourism project for the U.S. Forest Service in Alaska. He often works at the interface between natural and human systems, and has conducted research on habitat fragmentation, endangered species, and the ecological impacts of warfare. His books include Hurricane Lizards and Plastic Squid and The Impenetrable Forest. You can find out more about his work here.
Kaira Jewel Lingo guides people to transform and heal through embodied presence, stillness and play. Having spent 15 years as a nun with Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, she sees her work as a continuation of the Engaged Buddhism he developed, as well as her father’s work with Martin Luther King Jr. Having lived for four years in one of Africa’s biggest slums on the outskirts of Nairobi, she is on a lifelong journey of weaving contemplative practice with social justice. She has authored and edited inspirational books and teaching resources, including We Were Made for These Times: 10 Lessons for Moving through Change, Loss and Disruption. You can find out more about her work here.
Nicola Peel finds practical solutions to the challenges of our time in environmental conservation and rewilding. She is actively involved in projects that promote sustainability and ecological restoration and has a particular interest in the Ecuadorian Amazon. In addition to being an environmental consultant and biophilic advocate, she serves as an ambassador for One Planet and is a trustee for Rainforest Saver. You can find out more about her work and read some of her writings here.
The talks will be hosted by Rowena Wilson, who is a creative teacher, composer and broadcaster living in North Cornwall. Initially trained as a mindfulness teacher with Breathworks, Rowena devises and delivers Green Meditations, Earth Treasure Meditations and others, all inspired by Nature. You can find out more about her work here.
