Rediscover your face, reconnect with yourself
We invite you to join us to explore simple yet powerful practices of facial yoga with teacher Alison Howard-Jones and discover how they can benefit your overall wellbeing.
Facial yoga does more than enhance youth and beauty. In a comfortable seated position, you will be guided by Alison to harness your ojas and tejas subtle energies through movement, breathwork, visualisation and chanting, reflecting them inwardly as flow, and outwardly as glow.
By engaging the vagus nerve through facial and eye movements, we can influence our autonomic nervous system, restore balance, and foster a mindful connection with ourselves, transforming how we see our identity. These gentle practices are accessed through the face instead of the rest of the body. Facial yoga also supports the flow of prana, the third subtle energy in the Ayurvedic triad, as the face is full of energetic nodes known as marma points.
We store emotion in the face, and facial yoga can help release these micro-tensions. This is similar to how hip openers or chest openers in yoga can trigger emotional release. All yoga emphasises svadhyaya (self-study), so becoming aware of how emotion shapes the face builds a kind of mindful intimacy with yourself and can shift how you relate to your identity.
These practices also enhance nervous system regulation, emotional patterning and embodied awareness, and this is very much in line with yoga’s goal of stilling the fluctuations of the mind and changing emotional holding patterns.
Your wellbeing is important to us, so we invite you to be gentle, compassionate and kind towards yourself as you practise. We hope you will enjoy learning and exploring this special form of yoga, whatever your current level of flexibility.
It will be ideal if you can sit comfortably in front of your screen in a position that allows you to have an upright spine, but using a comfortable chair would also be fine. This event is accessible and may also appeal to people who don’t or can’t do yoga postures, although the use of your hand will be needed.
