Resurgence Talk: Jeremy Lent – ‘An Ecological Civilisation: its Principles and Possibilities’

Wed 25 Nov 2026 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM GMT Online, Zoom

Authoritarianism is on the rise, inequality is pulling societies apart, and the natural systems we depend on are breaking down. These are the results of a civilisation based on exploitation, extraction and separation. What would it take to replace it with a society that set the conditions for all beings to thrive on a regenerated Earth – an ecological civilisation?

In this talk with Q&A, Jeremy Lent will explore the concept of an ecocivilisation: why we need it, its underlying principles, and a glimpse of what it might look like in practice. An ecocivilisation envisages a potential future of human flourishing, which would require a transformation of our current world system, leading to a society based on different values, goals and collective behaviour.

Based on themes from his recently published book Ecocivilization: Making a World that Works for All, Jeremy will show how it’s possible to envisage a coherent system-wide framework that could allow all beings to flourish on a healthy, vibrant planet.

Jeremy Lent is an author and speaker whose work investigates the underlying causes of our civilisation’s existential crisis, and explores pathways towards a life-affirming future.

His previous books are The Patterning Instinct: A Cultural History of Humanity’s Search for Meaning and The Web of Meaning: Integrating Science and Traditional Wisdom to Find Our Place in the Universe. He is the founder of the Deep Transformation Network, a global community exploring pathways towards a life-affirming future on a regenerated Earth.

He has written extensively about the vision and specifics of an ecological civilisation, is co-founder and executive director of the Ecocivilization Coalition, and is president of its parent, the Institute for Ecological Civilization.

This will be a Zoom webinar with Q&A. Please send your questions for Jeremy to events@resurgence.org

Jeremy’s talk will be recorded, and a link to the video will be sent to all ticket holders a few days after the event.
