Funga, Totems of Unity: a trilogy of talks

Mon 16 Nov 2026 7:00 PM - Mon 30 Nov 2026 8:30 PM GMT Online, Zoom

Mondays 16, 23 & 30 November, 7–8.30pm GMT via Zoom

Recently given their own kin-dom alongside fauna and flora, funga have been mushrooming across human awareness lately. This autumnal webinar trilogy will explore the current terrain surrounding these totems of unity. Join us as three leading fungal collaborators offer their perspectives on where we are – and where we might go – with our fungal kin. At this critical juncture for human and planetary health, can we fully surface their connective and regenerative abilities?

This is a series of Zoom webinars with interactive Q&A sessions. If you would like to submit a question before the event, please email events@resurgence.org

Please note that you can still sign up for the whole series even after one or two of the talks have passed, as you will receive a link to recordings of all three once the series is over.

Funga – Deepening Relations
Christian Taylor
16 November 2026

In this talk Christian will explore how fungi enhance ecological perception of space and time, and how they may contribute to philosophy.

Funga – Resilient Regenerators
Carlos Aguilar-Trigueros
23 November 2026

In this talk, microbial ecologist Carlos will discuss how fungi grow, interact with their environment, and influence processes such as soil carbon storage, soil and plant health, and responses to climate change.

Funga – Mythic Medicine
Tasha Stevens-Vallecillo
30 November 2026

In this talk, Tasha will show how mushroom medicine is so much more than incredible medical compounds and will invite us to reimagine what is possible in a world experiencing collapse, extinction and mass transformation, offering hope and possibilities beyond imagination.

About the speakers:

Christian Taylor is a fungal ecologist and science teacher based in Exeter, UK, specialising in the relationships between fungi, trees and animals. He has studied fungal ecology in Canada, India and Europe, and he currently works for the School of Environment, Earth and Ecosystem Sciences at The Open University, teaching ecological and biological sciences.

He is on the Education and Outreach committee of the British Mycological Society and is a science associate of SPUN (Society for the Protection of Underground Networks). He organises an international transdisciplinary ecology course called Rural Arts in Science & Sustainability Education (RAiSE-ecology).

Carlos Aguilar-Trigueros is a microbial ecologist leading a soil ecology research group at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland. His research explores the fascinating world of fungi and other microorganisms living in soils, and how these largely invisible life forms shape the ecosystems we depend on.

His team combines laboratory experiments, fieldwork, microscopy, image processing and data science, with the ultimate aim of understand how the extraordinary diversity of life in soils helps keep ecosystems functioning in a changing world.

Tasha Elena Stevens-Vallecillo is the founder of Land, Food and Medicine, a collective cultivating a deeper, more sacred relationship with the Earth. Rooted in food and medicine sovereignty, and inspired by the mythical, subversive and symbiotic world of mycology, their work weaves together food and medicine growing, spiritual herbalism and Emerging Earth – a gathering exploring our capacity to heal ourselves, our communities and the Earth, with funded places for those too often pushed to the margins.

Exploring the mythic, mystical and radically non-binary nature of mushrooms, Tasha champions the power of local, native medicines and the profound interdependence between human and more-than-human life.

These talks will be hosted by Pete Yeo. With past chapters involving horticulture, landscape architecture, environmental activism and philanthropy, Pete is now focused on serving his long-standing passion for plants, working with them to draw attention to our ecological relationships and inviting greater coherence within and without. As a reconciliation ecologist and Nature mentor, he gives talks, guides walks, engages in consultancy, writes and broadcasts in this spirit. You can find out more about Pete at www.futureflora.co.uk

These events are FREE. Any donations will raise money for The Resurgence Trust, an educational charity (no. 1120414) that seeks to connect people to Nature, to each other and to themselves. It is thanks to the generosity of supporters of The Resurgence Trust that we are able to offer free events.
