Meet the Artist: Talk and Craft Activity
Wed 13 Apr 2022 7:30 PM - 9:00 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
A talk and Q&A about Nature as a ‘commons’, and a communal making activity.
Join artist, Shane Waltener, of the Common Agency Projects whose artwork seeks to address the idea of Nature as a ‘commons’ through observation, movement improvisation and play. Shane will guide you in making cordage from a range of natural and recycled materials that you will be instructed on how to gather a few days before the event. Shane will prompt you to think about your locality and where Nature is to be found within it; what Nature means to you; the agency and transformative potential of materials in your environment; and the notion of ‘working with’ Nature.
You will be sent instructions on how to gather materials and make cordage prior to the event. There will also be a demonstration and chance to make cordage at the event.
You will also hear from Deirdre Figueiredo, director of Craftspace, whose national touring exhibition ‘We Are Commoners: Creative Acts of Commoning’, includes interactive artworks by Shane and the Common Agency Projects. The editor of Resurgence & Ecologist, Marianne Brown, will host a Q&A with both Shane and Deirdre.
You can find out more in the Crafting and Commoning article from the March/April issue of Resurgence and Ecologist magazine.
This event is brought to you by The Resurgence Trust and Craftspace, a charity that champions the power of craft to change lives and communities.
