The Cinema Climatic showcases some of the best films coming from the environmental movement in one of Bristol's coolest venues. 

7.30pm: Offshore

The show opens with Offshore, from Platform London and Friends of the Earth Scotland. "Offshore is an independent documentary that brings together varying perspectives on working in offshore oil and gas and renewable energy - and explores what the coming energy transition means for workers and communities around the UK North Sea." Offshore is directed by Hazel Falck and was filmed in Aberdeen, Newcastle and Grimsby in 2021. The film will be introduced by Rosemary Harris, the North Sea Just Transition campaigner at Platform.

8.30pm: The Oil Machine

The main feature is The Oil Machine. The film is directed by Emma Davie and "brings together a wide range of voices from oil company executives, economists, young activists, workers, scientists, and pension fund managers. It considers how this machine can be tamed, dismantled, or repurposed." Phuong Lee writes in The Guardian: "[T]his is a timely reminder for viewers to not only recognise the omnipresence of oil-based products but to also advocate for meaningful systemic changes."

The Climatic Cinema is being held at the Paintworks in Bristol on Saturday, 17 June 2023. The event space will not be selling drinks, so please do bring your own non-alcoholic refreshments and / and preload for the evening. The Bocabar is right upstairs and will be serving both food and drinks.
