Join our free guided meditations with a specific plant-based focus this July. Mindfulness teacher Rowena Wilson’s soft and encouraging words will facilitate a contemplative 30 minutes together, each time taking you into a uniquely focused meditation and inspiring a deeper connection with our green world. Various elements like Breathworks techniques, mindfulness, body scan and relaxation may also be included.
These sessions are ideal for anyone who’s done at least a little meditation before (due to the length) and may be particularly helpful for anyone who has had difficulty meditating with their eyes shut, because for these meditations we need our eyes open to look at the living world in front of us.
Each of the four meditations has a different green focus. For all except the last one you will need a different plant friend in front of you that is close enough to see in detail.
You may like to start each meditation by looking at the screen during the introduction, but then you will be given the opportunity to get comfortable in front of your plant and will only need to hear Rowena’s words after that, rather than gazing at the screen.
8am Friday 7th July: Meditation 1 – Green Plant
Please choose and sit with any plant you like, but make it something green, as the other meditations will use slightly different plant focus. It could be potted or in a vase or even a simple stem. It doesn’t matter if it’s not in the best of health, but do chose one that is alive. If you must use a stem, let it be fresh. Just have ONE plant ready.
8am Friday 14th July: Meditation 2 – Flowers
Please choose and sit with any plant you like that has at least one flower. It could be potted or in a vase or simply lying in front of you. It doesn’t matter if it’s not in the best of health, but do choose a plant that is alive or a freshly cut stem. If you can’t find a full flower, just find a petal (ideally freshly fallen.)
8am Friday 21st July: Meditation 3 – Fruit
Please choose and sit with one small piece of fruit. A blackberry or strawberry is ideal, but an apple or other larger fruit will also be fine. Just have ONE ready. We will eventually be eating it as part of the meditation, so if you feel tempted to eat it first you might want to have a backup ready!
8am Friday 28th July: Meditation 4 – The Wild
Please sit where you can see something wild growing. Looking out of the window onto trees is ideal, and if it’s possible, sitting in your garden surrounded by plants would be fantastic. It doesn’t matter if you look out onto a busy road, as long as your view includes a large tree or bush. If you have no plants where you can see them growing outdoors, then make sure you can at least see the sky, as this is a meditation that will widen out to include all the elements.
This is a free event. Any donations will raise money for The Resurgence Trust, an educational charity that seeks to connect people to Nature, to each other and to themselves. (no. 1120414). It is thanks to the generosity of supporters of The Resurgence Trust that we are able to offer free events.
