2022 Scottish Performing Arts Classic
Sat Apr 30, 2022 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM EDT
Saint James Anglican Church - James Island, 29412
Description
The ancient MacDonald Lords of the Isles saw it as their responsibility to support, encourage, and develop the Gaelic culture in all its forms. The Lords of the Isles built churches, supported monasteries, were patrons of dancing, clarsach playing, poetry and, of course, piping. For more than thirty years, the Clan Donald Lands Trust (CDLT), in the name of great Clan Donald, has been honored to carry on this important responsibility.
The Robert Burns Society of Charleston is pleased to partner with CDLT to bring to Charleston three of these important Scottish Performing Arts competitions: The Princess Margaret of the Isles Memorial Prize for Senior Clarsach (Harp) (9:00 A.M. - 11: A.M.), The Dan R MacDonald Memorial Prize for Senior Fiddle (12:30 P.M - 2:30 P.M.) and The Joseph MacDonald Memorial Prize for Piobaireachd (Scottish bagpipe) (3:30 P.M. - 5:30 P.M.). These three important competitions will be conducted on April 30th, 2022, with the support and cooperation of Saint James Arts Academy, James Island at 1872 Camp Road, Charleston, South Carolina.
We are pleased to announce that The Right Honourable Godfrey James Macdonald of Macdonald, 8th Lord Macdonald, Chief of the Name and Arms of Macdonald, High Chief of Clan Donald and 34th Hereditary Chief of Clan Donald and The Right Honourable Dr. Claire Macdonald of Macdonald, OBE will be joining us for the 2022 Scottish Performing Arts Classic.
