Brunch Time Lecture with Dr Stella Pedrazzini

Sat 15 May 2021 10:30 AM - 11:30 AM BST

Online, Zoom

Description

Join us for the first ever Salters' Institute weekend brunch time lecture series.

Our lectures will bring chemistry and how we interact with it to life, in ways you have never imagined. Chemistry can be found everywhere, from the clothes we wear, to the architecture around us, to inventions that help us live in a more sustainable and eco- friendly way.

Our second guest speaker, Dr Stella Pedrazzini, is a Lecturer in Engineering Alloys, EPSRC Early Career Fellow and RAEng Associate Research Fellow at Imperial College London. Stella worked at Rolls-Royce UTC at the University of Cambridge for two years, before coming to Imperial College as a Lecturer in October 2018, where she now leads the environmental degradation research group.

In this lecture, Stella will focus on salt and its corrosive effects. Corrosion costs about 3.4% of the global GDP and comes with safety and environmental sustainability concerns. There have been many efforts over the years to tackle corrosion, with some notable success stories, but the issue remains and affects almost every industrial sector. With exciting new technology on the horizon, Stella will discuss these new efforts to make components last longer, reducing their environmental impact. This lecture will be followed by the opportunity for the audience to take part in a live Q&A.

Please note, the zoom link will be sent 24 hours in advance to the start of the lecture. Please check your junk and spam folders if the invitation is not in your inbox. If you have not received the invitation by 8am on the day of the lecture please email publicprogrammes@salters.co.uk.

1 ticket is needed per person.
