Marsh Fritillary Survey Training

Wed 5 Aug 2026 10:00 AM - 4:00 PM East Shallowford Farm, TQ13 7PW

Become a citizen scientist with Shallowford Farm, Butterfly Conservation, and Buglife!

Help us protect the Marsh Fritillary butterfly on Dartmoor.

One of Britain's most threatened butterflies lives on Dartmoor. We need your help to protect it. East Shallowford Farm is running a volunteer monitoring programme across 8 sites along the River Webburn - and we're looking for 20 eager citizen scientists to join us.

What's involved:

  • Introductions over tea and coffee
  • Presentation on the Marsh Fritillary Butterfly and how we survey them.
  • Head out on site to put your new skills into practice.
  • Sign up for survey days in August and early September to survey the 8 farms across the River Webburn. ( You wont be expected to sign up to survey all 8, unless you really want to!)
  • All training and equipment will be provided.

You’ll need to be:

  • Aged 16 or over
  • Reasonably physically fit and stable on your feet
  • Available on weekdays for survey days.
