Join us to celebrate the winners of The Sociological Review Journal Article of the Year for 2023.
This year’s award is shared by two teams of authors:
“Cards against gamification: Using a role-playing game to tell alternative futures in the gig economy”
Authors: Cosmin Popan, David Perez, Jamie Woodcock
Focus: Exploration of the prospects for greater solidarity and agency and improved working conditions for gig workers, drawing on ethnographic insights from “playful“ work with food couriers in Manchester.
“Power relations and persistent low fertility among domestic workers in Latin America”
Authors: Andrés Felipe Castro Torres, Edith Yolanda Gutierrez-Vazquez
Focus: Analysis of fertility rates among live-in domestic workers in Brazil, Colombia and Mexico, and highlighting the socioeconomic disadvantage, mobility constraints and poor workplace conditions they face.
Five further papers addressing topics including anti-corruption in Puerto Rico, care in residential homes and the impact of COVID-19 on Colombian indigenous communities have been recognised as Highly Commended. Find further details on our website.
