Publish or Perish: Strategies, tips and tricks for communicating sociology

Wed 17 Jun 2026 9:30 AM - 1:00 PM BST Online, Zoom

Are you feeling the pressure to publish but unsure where to start, what to prioritise or how to communicate your work effectively? The Sociological Review Foundation is hosting an interactive online workshop with Professor Karen O’Reilly to support early career scholars in navigating the challenges of academic and public-facing communication.

This workshop will help early career scholars navigate the turbulent waters of communicating sociology. Drawing on insights from her own successes (and failures) and on the experiences of others, Karen will the address the challenges that arise when publishing a range of outputs, from journal articles and books to podcasts and presentations. Karen has vast experience in academic and non-academic publishing. Although she is based in the Global North, Karen will also incorporate perspectives from scholars working in the Global South, along with innovative ideas and experiences of early career scholars.

The workshop will consist of two sessions, each lasting 1.5 hours, combining presentations and interactive discussions.
