Becoming Crew x Bayo Akomolafe: The Age of Fugitivity
Tue 28 May 2024 6:30 PM - 8:30 PM BST
Online, Zoom
Description
In this first gathering of a live series of three, we welcome Bayo Akomolafe, philosopher, writer, post-activist, professor of psychology, and executive director of the Emergence Network.
Bayo offers us the frame ‘ The Age of Fugitivity’ for the departure on our journey, opening up a wider exploration of 'the terrain of whiteness', 'white stability' - its wobbling state today, 'becoming black' and other provocations.
In Bayo's words:
“Whiteness is the logic of capture. It works alongside neoliberal humanism and alongside capitalist modes of extraction, perpetuating itself via a neurotypicality – a system of value that measures out what it means to be properly embodied, what it means to be a self, and – by extension – what it means to be dispensable. “
We’ll speak to the unknowingness of these unravelling times and explore the invitation into fugitivity, stepping away from the highway of modernity and letting go of the illusion of control. - what might we find?
The session will be a live dialogue with Bayo, hosted by Dan Burgess, with space for questions from attendees.
The session will also offer reflective practice guided by Evva Semenowicz.
This is the first of 3 online gatherings spanning over 3 months, rooted in the following ongoing inquiry:
How might we compost & re-imagine the dominant story of our times, the story of our separation?
This is a participative, experimental online gathering. Each session will offer creative fertiliser from guest teachers as well as practices to creatively respond to the session as a way of being in relationship with the 'content' offered.
