Marcel Breuer in Bristol – A Tour of Modernism

Thu 26 Nov 2026 5:30 PM - 7:00 PM The Stradling Collection, BS1 5LH

Discover how Bauhaus pioneer Marcel Breuer left his mark on Bristol through a 1930s collaboration with local furniture maker Crofton Gane. Their partnership produced iconic modernist designs and the striking Gane Pavilion, co-designed with F.R.S. Yorke.

The Stradling Collection preserves rare Breuer pieces from this period, offering a unique glimpse into his British legacy and Bristol’s role in shaping modernist design.

It features over 2,000 objects, including studio and commercial ceramics, glass, sculpture, furniture, industrial design, and various artworks. Celebrated for its national significance, it is a true treasure of the South West.

On the tour, discover the captivating design histories of Bristol, the story of the now-closed Guild, and more remarkable tales from our 20th and 21st-century design collection.

The collection is both eclectic and engaging, often sparking nostalgic reactions from visitors who exclaim, “Oooh – we had one of those!”.
