“Hey Robin, how’s the surf in Dauphin Island?”

“Hey Robin, my dad has Stage 3 colon cancer. What is his life expectancy?”

“Hey Robin, are you my friend?”

“Hey, Robin, how can I know that I am a good person?”

“Hey Robin…”

Ask the average AI assistant anything you want, and they’ll return results in seconds. But what do we actually want? Are we looking to learn, remember, or simply cope?

Voice Commands, a new play from The Cardboard Sea, in association with The Sublime Theater, explores how we lean into this technology and all the ways it proves unreliable.

A dark comedy, Voice Commands follows three interlocking stories. Each piece dives deeper into the murky waters of our current situation, our second guessing, our sure-footedness, and our frailty.

Now in its tenth year, The Cardboard Sea is devoted to deep collaboration, theatrical high jinks, and ensemble ownership. A few things change with each production, but a few things remain: Jeff Donnelly provides the performance text. Todd Weakley oversees the production. Amazing performers fill the cast. For this production, we feature Kristi DeVille, Charlie Holt, Eddie Yoffee, and Iliana Hernandez.
