Legal Issues Relating to Therapeutic Work with Children & Young People: Peter Jenkins
An essential workshop for counsellors and psychotherapists working with children and young people
Saturday 29th February 2020
Content Summary: This is a highly participative workshop, which explores key aspects of the law relating to therapeutic work with children and young people in England and Wales. The workshop will introduce a practical and effective model for understanding and applying children's rights in a variety of practice contexts, such as health and education, amongst others. It addresses the many issues relating to working with the Gillick principle in a therapeutic context, and looks at more recent legal developments impacting on this landmark decision. The workshop directly addresses the two key problematic areas facing therapists working with this client group, namely protecting confidentiality and privacy, and secondly, working within existing child protection and safeguarding legislation.
Workshop Format: Peter’s workshops are very popular. They are interactive and include a variety of presentation styles including short presentations, case studies, group feedback and discussion with the facilitator. Peter explains and outlines the law in non-technical language with plenty of opportunities for questions.
