Make a Tweed Cap
Fri 21 Feb 2025 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM GMT
The Tailoring Academy, SK11 6HS
Description
A day-long workshop dedicated entirely to the iconic tweed cap:
First introduced in England in the late 16th century, when legislation passed by Parliament stated that all English citizens above the age of six 'had on Sabbath and Holydays to wear caps of wool manufactured in England', the tweed cap is a beloved wardrobe staple to this day.
The law, known as the Statute of Apparel was oddly only in effect for two decades before being repealed, but we stick to the rule and invite anyone over six* to take part in this workshop, to make a cap of their own from a cloth made in West Yorkshire, which is firmly a part of England.
The workshop includes your individual pattern and all materials. Make your cap from a beautiful, 100% Scottish Merino wool cloth: known fondly as The Great Northern Cloth, this is a light weight Herringbone tweed, made available exclusively for this course.
The class is limited to eight places only. The course fee is £120 (incl. VAT).
*Please not anyone under 18 years must be accompanied by a parent or carer.
