The Teaching Artist Project is led by Katherine Steele, a qualified primary teacher with an undergraduate degree in Textile Design and over a decade of classroom experience. Combining the thinking of an artist with a deep understanding of how children learn, the project was created to offer thoughtful, process-led visual art experiences beyond the constraints often faced within traditional educational settings.
Through small-group studio sessions delivered in community spaces, children are supported to explore materials, develop ideas, and build confidence through making. Sessions prioritise creative process, curiosity, and individual ways of working, using sketchbooks as artists do — to experiment, reflect, and think visually.
The long-term vision of The Teaching Artist Project is to expand its studio offer, providing clubs and workshops for primary schools, younger children, teens, and adults. Watch this space!
