Join a transformative three-day professional development seminar tailored specifically for teaching artists, The Teaching Artist’s Journey. This experience delves into best practices for creating impactful, arts-based educational experiences while honing instructional design, delivery, and classroom management strategies.
This seminar is structured around the Five-Phase Teaching Artist Development Cycle: Planning, Preparing, Teaching, Reflecting, and Revising. By exploring this cycle, participants will refine their teaching approaches through dynamic sessions and hands-on activities.

- Comprehensive Framework: Dive into core lesson design components—Introduction, Learning Activity, and Closure—and learn how to integrate these effectively into your teaching.
- Practical Application: Engage in activities like writing transitions, designing lesson steps, and creating participant groupings.

Accommodations and Meals:
To foster an immersive and collaborative learning environment, participants are housed in undergraduate dormitory accommodations on the UC Santa Barbara campus. The dormitory apartments are located in the recently opened Sierra Madre complex located on the Goleta side of the UC Santa Barbara campus. Participants are assigned to their own bedroom in a shared two-bedroom apartment with each participant having their own bathroom. Linens are provided. All facilities are ADA compliant. The Institute provides three nights lodging with an arrival date of June 29 and a departure date of July 2. (Ending time on July 2 is 11:00am) If you are interested in making your own accommodations off-campus or would like to arrange an early arrival on campus, please contact morgan.focus5@gmail.com.
Breakfasts and lunches are provided.
A catered reception will be held Sunday, June 29 from 5pm-7pm to welcome participants.
A catered dinner will be provided the evening of July 1.
Note: The UCSB campus is a smoke-free campus.
