Cultivating Community: CTNC Site Visit and Workshop at Growing Well Tebay

Join us for a practical day of learning, sharing, and networking at Growing Well Tebay, a pioneering community nursery project located at Tebay Services near Penrith, North Cumbria.

This event will include a guided tour of the nursery, networking and sharing of CTNC stories, as well as presentations from sector experts, with a discussion of biosecurity certification from other nurseries who have been through the experience including UKISG, Plant Healthy, and others. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with fellow community nursery practitioners from across the North, exchange ideas, and explore practical approaches to nursery development. A free, catered lunch will be provided. Please wear suitable clothing for the site visit and outdoor activities.

About Growing Well Tebay

Opened in January 2023, Growing Well at Tebay Services is one of three Growing Well sites in Cumbria delivering adult mental health support via horticultural and nature-based activity. The Tebay site was setup in partnership with Westmorland Ltd, providing a rent-free site where fresh produce is grown in polytunnels and raised beds and supplied directly to the Services farm shops and kitchens. The site has been developed from scratch, transforming a former static caravan park into a vibrant, functional space supported by local staff and beneficiaries. The tree nursery was created in 2025 and beneficiaries engage in seed collection and processing and propagation and production of over 40,000 trees, which includes over 20 different UK native species. The nursery is authorised to issue Plant Passports, registered as a Forest Reproductive Material (FRM) Supplier, certified with the Woodland Trust UKISG scheme and in the midst of certification with the Plant Healthy scheme.
