THIS EVENT IS FOR THE UNIVERSITY OF MANCHESTER EMPLOYEES ONLY

This interactive event will provide an overview of the state-of-the-art imaging capabilities available through the Octopus (Optics Clustered to OutPut Unique Solutions) imaging cluster. This national user facility is designed to support researchers from experimental design through to data interpretation and publication, offering both cutting-edge instrumentation and expert scientific support.

Workshop topics will include:

  • super-resolution microscopy
  • multiphoton microscopy
  • cryogenic imaging
  • correlative imaging workflows
  • advanced image analysis approaches.

Bringing together researchers, imaging specialists, data scientists and technology experts, this workshop will focus on the complete research journey from an initial scientific question, through experimental planning and data acquisition, to image processing, quantitative analysis, visualisation, publication and impact. Participants will learn how integrated imaging and computational approaches can accelerate discovery across biomedical, environmental and materials science applications.

There will be opportunities to discuss your research challenges directly with Octopus staff, explore potential imaging strategies, identify technical solutions to experimental bottlenecks, and brainstorm new collaborative projects.

Researchers at all career stages are encouraged to attend this workshop.

Professor Jayne Lawrence, Director, The University of Manchester at Harwell, and Dr Andy Ward, Senior Link Scientist at the Octopus Facility, will introduce the workshop, followed by presentations from our speakers listed below.

Registration

There is no fee to attend this workshop. Registration closes at 12:00 (midday) (BST), Wednesday 21 October 2026. Once registered, all final details including the agenda will be sent a few days in advance.

Refreshments
Refreshments will be provided free of charge throughout the day of the workshop, including tea, coffee, biscuits, water and fruit juice and a sandwich lunch including vegetarian options.  If you have any other specific dietary requirements you will be able to indicate this in the registration form.

Other details
This workshop takes place at The Core Technology Facility, 46 Grafton Street, Manchester, M13 9NT. This venue is one mile from the city centre, within walking distance of the Grafton Street car park.

This is a collaboration between the Central Laser Facility (CLF) Octopus Bio-Imaging Facility, The University of Manchester, and The University of Manchester at Harwell.
