What is hypnobirthing?

Hypnobirthing involves breathing and relaxation exercises to prepare you for giving birth but also the space to prepare for birth and parenting with a positive mindset. Hypnobirthing is for all types of birth and the aim is a positive birth - whatever that looks like for you. In order to make decisions during labour and feel in control you need to be able to feel calm and being able to feel as relaxed as possible is key.

Birth partners also benefit so much from hypnobirthing, not just in terms of being able to relax themselves but also to feel able to support their partner effectively.

My course is different to many of the hypnobirthing courses out there because it focuses on fear releasing and rewiring any negative thoughts, but also on bonding with your baby both in your pregnancy and after your baby has been born. The Village Midwife hypnobirthing course also has relaxation techniques for after your baby has been born which help the transition into parenthood which we feel is important.

When should I do hypnobirthing?

You can start hypnobirthing anywhere from 25 weeks but it’s never too early or too late to start a hypnobirthing course. Some people first learn some hypnobirthing techniques in labour and they still have an affect!

Does this replace an antenatal course?

No! We have lots of couples that do both hypnobirthing and our antenatal course with us, and some who join exclusively for our hypnobirthing course. Hypnobirthing is one way of approaching birth and labour and this course gives you the time to deep dive into hypnobirthing, and practice the techniques. Our antenatal course is longer, covers all eventualities and choices for birth, and also caring for your baby once your baby is here.

When are the sessions?

The course is made up of 2 x 2 hour, in person sessions at The Village Midwife HQ.

Who is teaching the course?

This course is taught by Robyn, hypnobirthing teacher, birth and postnatal doula. Before entering the birth world I worked as a family support worker, nanny, nursery manager, forest school leader, and self-advocacy supporter. From this I bring a wide range of experience of building genuine connections, helping and supporting where necessary, whilst leaving space to follow your instincts and work out who you are as a parent and a family.
