Wee Varietal: Sangiovese
A Wee Varietal: Sangiovese
For this Wee Focus, we're celebrating Sangiovese, Italy's most planted red grape and the backbone of Tuscany's great wines. From the rolling hills of Chianti Classico to the sun-warmed slopes of Montalcino and Montepulciano, it's a grape that delivers bright acidity, savoury character, and serious structure, while increasingly finding new voices beyond Italy's borders.
We'll be tasting four very different expressions, expect sour cherry and dried herbs, firm tannin, savoury spice, and, depending on the bottle, a touch of leather and earth that Sangiovese is famous for.
As always, this will be a relaxed, approachable tasting, complete with cheeseboards. Perfect for anyone curious about one of the world's most food-friendly grapes, or simply looking for a thought-provoking way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
