The Western Wind Presents: One Round Home
A Concert for Earth Day
Featuring "Cultivar, A new work by Kamala Sankaram written for The Western Wind Vocal Ensemble commissioned by the Brooklyn Botanic Garden for the Power of Trees exhibition.
Sankaram's composition celebrates plants and trees in the Brooklyn Botanic Garden including the Magnolia Evamaria, the first magnolia cultivar with yellow flowers, originally created at the Garden; the dawn redwoods, which were believed to be extinct until they were rediscovered in the early 20th century; a weeping beech covered with carvings of visitors' initials, the beautiful flag cherry and the humble mangrove...
In addition to "Cultivar" there will be other music honoring Mother Earth including"Apocalypse Lullaby" by The Wailin' Jennys arranged by Gayla Morgan, and exciting music by Estevez, Shabalala, Hindemith, Hai-Ting Chinn, Elliot Z. Levine, Liz Hanna, and others.
