Warm days. Cold nights. Pacific influence. Wines with freshness, vibrance, and a powerful sense of place.

'It is an oft-repeated adage at the track that a racecar is fast for two important reasons... surely a powerful motor can spin the wheels faster than a competitor...but, it is the strength of the car's brakes that define true speed and wins races. Why reference Lime Rock in describing a tasting and study of elegant wines from the Pacific Coast? Because while it is the warm sunny days that ripen the delicious fruit to make richly flavorful wines, indeed, it is the cooling maritime air at night that lends restraint to this ripeness, elegance to this body, and finery to this glass of uniquely special Santa Barbara wine.'

Join us around the Farmtable at our West Hartford wine shop for a deep dive into the wines of Southern California and Santa Barbara, exploring a place where abundant California sunshine meets the cool, restless influence of the Pacific Ocean.

Our tasting will focus on two fascinating expressions of this region: the beautifully crafted wines of Presqu’ile Winery and the nano-production wines of Drake Whitcraft. Together, they offer an intimate look at the extraordinary potential of Santa Barbara’s coastal vineyards—and at a style of California wine that is as much about freshness, energy, and place as it is about ripeness and sunshine.

The defining story of Santa Barbara is one of contrast: Warm, brilliantly sunny days provide the light and growing-season warmth needed for full flavor development, while the Pacific exerts a profound maritime influence. Cool afternoons, chilly evenings, and remarkably cold overnight temperatures slow the ripening process and help preserve acidity, aromatic character, and vibrancy in the finished wines.

It is this tension between sun and sea, warmth and coolness that makes Santa Barbara so compelling.

Throughout the tasting, we’ll dig into the geography and climate of the region: how the Pacific funnels cool air into the vineyards, how dramatic diurnal shifts affect ripening, and why Santa Barbara can produce wines that are simultaneously sunny and vibrant, ripe and refreshing, generous and precise.

Most importantly, this is a tasting about wines that feel connected to where their origin.

From the precision and vineyard focus of Presqu’ile to the tiny, deeply personal bottles from Drake Whitcraft, these are wines that demonstrate the enduring appeal of classic California terroir: wines shaped by sunlight, ocean, soil, vineyard, and the people willing to let those elements speak.

THE POUR LIST WILL BE A DELICIOUS SURPRISE.  21+ ID IS REQUIRED!
