Jess is a Mess. A reluctant maid-of-honor she’s forced to attend her best friend’s off-the-grid wedding in the woods, where she comes face-to-face with her ex-girlfriend (and her unresolved lust), all her more successful college friends, and every bad choice she’s made in her life so far. This rollicking film is a celebration of love and friendship, a Big Chill with a modern vibe. Abby Miller, (Home Before Dark, Justified) gives a laugh-out-loud performance as the quirky and out of control Jess in this rom-com that was listed as one of the “7 movies to see” at BFI Flare, the UK’s biggest queer film festival.
About the Director
Mandy Fabian
Director
After growing up on a ranch in a tiny no-stoplight town in Texas, Mandy Fabian moved to Austin, TX, and became the youngest member of the professional sketch comedy troupe “Esther’s Follies” before leaving Texas to attend Vassar College and major in film. (What? I know. Her parents thought that too.)
She moved to NYC, did a bunch of sketch comedy, improv and theatre in places much cooler than she is, and after moving to LA, Mandy bought a horse, and became a singer-songwriter, until she finally put her film degree back to work, as a writer-director.
Since then, Mandy has directed multiple award-winning shorts, co-created and directed The Young Hillary Diaries, Lifetime's first digital series, and wrote the Amazon digital series Dropping the Soap, which won Jane Lynch an Emmy for Best Actress in a Short Form Original in 2017. She was awarded a fellowship by the Sony Pictures Television Directing Program, and named "Best New Filmmaker of the Year" by NewFilmmakers LA and her screenplay, Late Bloomer, was selected for the Meryl Streep/Oprah Winfrey Writers Lab. Mandy was one of six directors chosen to lead all-female crews for the Women's Weekend Film Challenge, and the independent pilot she directed, Vicarious, won the Audience Award at Dances With Films and the LA Indie Film Festival.
Recently, Mandy completed her first feature film, Jess Plus None, a feminist rom-com set at an off-the-grid wedding in the woods.
