Dele Sosimi Afrobeat Orchestra @ TWT25

Dele Sosimi, the Nigerian-British Afrobeat Ambassador, Musician and Educator, has been at the heart of the global Afrobeat scene since relocating to the UK in December 1995. Having started his musical career with Fela Kuti's Egypt 80 band in his teens, he then teamed up with childhood friend Fela's son Femi Kuti to kick start the Positive Force - touring, recording and performing worldwide.

Over forty years later, he remains a tireless ambassador for the unique musical movement all over the world. His blend of complex funk grooves, traditional Nigerian music, African percussion and an underlying sense of jazz combines with his virtuoso keyboard skills and rhythmic singing to make him one of the most respected Afrobeat authorities of his era.

His music remains imbued with his politics, the sound of resistance carrying forward Fela’s message against the “colonial mentality” into our own turbulent times.

He will perform on Saturday night, making his debut at the Niamos, on the same stage that Fela himself performed in the early 1990s.

Dele’s live shows are always electric, and with the political and historical alignment of this year’s TWT, particularly the commemoration of 80 Years since the Fifth Pan African Congress, this is set to be an unmissable show of the highest order. Don’t sleep on this!

This is a co-production with Community Manchester, and Dele will be supported by Irfan Rainy, esteemed Manchester DJ who has hosted a tribute event Rememba Fela ‘ and his Afrobeat sound annually for the last twenty seven years.
