SUNDAYS, Sept. 1st - 15th | In this three-section workshop class on writing personal essays, participants will engage in a comprehensive journey of self-expression and literary appreciation.
The first section focuses on reading and analyzing exemplary personal essays from renowned authors. By dissecting these works, students will gain insights into effective storytelling techniques, voice, and structure. The second section is dedicated to in-class writing prompts designed to spark creativity and encourage exploration of personal experiences and reflections. These prompts will help participants develop their unique voice and style in a supportive environment. The final section is a workshop period where students share their drafts and receive constructive feedback from peers and the instructor.
This collaborative setting fosters a sense of community and allows for the refinement of ideas and techniques. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a deeper understanding of personal essay writing and a strong draft of their own personal essay.
Kate Busatto is 26 years old and separates her laundry. She holds a BFA in Drama from Carnegie Mellon and a Master of Divinity from Yale. Her work has been published in the US with Tampa Review, X-R-A-Y, and Interim: a Journal of Poetry & Poetics and in the UK with Five Dials, The Moth, and Interpreter’s House. Her work is forthcoming in The Threepenny Review. Kate joined the The Writers Grotto in 2023. She is currently at work on her first novel. Learn more at katebusatto.com.
