TUESDAYS, NOV. 1st - NOV. 15th |Do you have an idea for a children’s book? Maybe you have even written your first page? In this lightning fast (or slightly less fast) hour, I will give live feedback on your pitch or page. I have workshopped hundreds of kid-lit manuscripts as well as stories written by dozens of kids themselves. I’ve also written thousands of stories for kids for major educational publishers, so I have a pretty good sense of what ideas have legs and which ones are barely able to crawl out of bed. But I always see the gold in any idea, because if you feel passionate about it, there’s a great chance kids will, too. I will help you tweak your idea so it can leap for the stars!

Students will be able to sign up for one or more dates in this pitch feedback class. Material isn't taught sequentially in this class, so you will be able to select the date(s) that work best for your schedule.

You’ll hear helpful feedback on how to level up so your idea will sell. Or just listen and learn from the ideas of others as you hone your own. The market is always changing and I keep eyes and ears open to current trends. Always write to your passion, but the savviest writers understand what's out there and how to uniquely position their projects.

Participants will submit their first page or pitch ahead of meeting for my review and then we will meet in the Zoomiverse to understand all the why’s and how’s. Kids are an important audience and it’s my honor and delight to help people write for them. Fun and surprises guaranteed!

This class will meet on Zoom. Registered students, please contact the instructor directly for Zoom details.

Lisa Lerner is the author of the crossover YA novel JUST LIKE BEAUTY (FSG), a New York Times Notable Book of the Year, now in development as a movie produced by Lars Von Trier’s Zentropa and Patriot Pictures. For over 20 years, Lisa has been writing children’s books for educational publishers such as Scholastic, Fountas and Pinnell, and IXL. She recently wrote the first 8 chapters of a science fiction graphic novel KEEPERS OF THE LIBRARIUM for McGraw Hill. (Fortunately for the kids, she did not draw any of it!) Lisa teaches creative writing to kids, and to adults who want to write for kids, both privately and through The Writers Grotto. She is also a member of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, on the board of the Kingston Public Library, and loves writing about herself in the third person!
