SATURDAYS, MARCH 4th - APRIL 8th | Craving a creative community? Looking for more time and structure to write? Whether you’re working on fiction or nonfiction, a short story or a memoir or something in between, this class provides a structured environment for momentum, insight, and support. No matter how much (or how little) you’ve written, you’ve got a work-in-progress. And this class will help move it along.

We'll set goals, frame a workable practice that makes sense for you, and hold each other accountable – without blame. Each session will start with a check-in and writing prompts. We’ll address specific craft issues as they come up, and I will be available for meeting one-on-one. You’ll have the opportunity to meet in small groups for feedback (with specific guidance), if you choose. Homework assignments are designed to help you meet your goals, wherever you may be in the process. You’ll leave class with solid progress on your WIP (work-in-progress) and motivation to keep going.

This class is designed for writers of all levels. The only requirement is a desire to go deeper into a work of narrative prose – fiction, memoir, personal essay, narrative nonfiction, or some combination thereof, even if you're not yet sure what to call it -- and an openness to trying new approaches.

Dates: March 4, 11, 25; April 1, 8. Note no class March 18.

This class will meet in person only. Unless necessary for health reasons, we will not meet on Zoom. Your registration indicates your understanding of this.

Scheduled class sessions will take place at The Writers Grotto at 1663 Mission Street, Suite 602 San Francisco, CA 94103. We ask that all students be masked.

Lindsey Crittenden has published stories and essays in Best American Spiritual Writing, the New York Times, the Washington Post, Glimmer Train, Cimarron Review, Image, and many other publications. She is the author of the memoir The Water Will Hold You (which Publishers Weekly called “gorgeously written”) and a prize-winning story collection The View from Below. She loves working closely with students on their works in progress, and has several of her own underway.
