ABOUT THE WORKSHOP:

Ground Grooves is a floorwork approach and movement mindset that will heighten your physical sensitivity and soften your relationship with the floor. Utilizing choreographic sequencing, you will feel empowered to refine functional patterns and thoroughly embody conceptual floorwork ideas. Designed for dancers with previous floorwork experience, this medium-paced learning environment emphasizes movement quality and execution through longer sequences of movement.

A Ground Grooves workshop is for you if you:

- want to stay safe as you’re building your floorwork skills

- desire tools for softening your relationship with the floor and moving quietly

- want to refine your movement quality

- crave a thorough breakdown of floorwork patterns

- past workshop participant ages have ranged from 16-60 years old :)

Dancers can expect to gain:

- a thorough understanding of the logic and concepts behind the movements

- insight into anatomically sound movement patterning to prevent injury

- deeper control over momentum and speed

- an unlocked torso – learn how the spine affects your floorwork practice

- a healthier relationship to dance

- deepened relationships within community

Dancers can expect to experience:

- a relaxed environment where everyone can participate with joy and curiosity

- ample personalized guidance

- connection with other dancers in a non-judgmental learning space

- small group discussions on floorwork concepts and personal growth

- guided written self-reflection

Housing/Accommodations for out of town participants: Airbnbs, Hostels, BnBs, and Hotels near ASU campus would be great options for housing! If you choose to stay further away from campus, Uber/Lyft/Waymo are great options for getting around the PHX Valley and to ASU campus. Please keep in mind that the further away you go from ASU Campus and downtown Tempe, public transit to campus will be more cumbersome.

Parking: We recommended you park at the ASU Gammage parking lots OR any on or off campus parking garages or visitor lots on ASU Campus. There is also metered and free street parking nearby. We recommend that you plan ahead where you are going to park. Finding parking is not difficult. Plan to arrive 30 minutes before the workshop your first time to ASU so you have time to park, and find your way to the Nelson Fine Arts Center.
