🤝 Work Study / Trade Opportunities: Available for anyone experiencing financial barriers. Register for Work Trade by selecting “Tickets”, then scroll to the bottom of the pricing options. We’ll be in touch with you regarding your responsibilities after registration. We aim to keep pricing economically accessible and offer reduced tuition through Work Trade for those experiencing barriers. We avoid offering high-quality training completely free because we believe it’s important for dancers to invest in their training — reinforcing that what they’re receiving has real value.

We understand that balancing work, family, and life can be challenging. While we highly encourage full participation to gain the most benefit from our TRADE Lab offerings and the modules prepared by our guest teaching artists, we also understand that it may not be possible for everyone. If you’re only able to attend one day, that’s absolutely fine—we welcome you to join in whatever capacity you can.

About the Workshop:

This floorwork + contemporary dance workshop blends mindfulness, articulate expressivity, and grounded alignment to build movement that honors your body and sparks curiosity—increasing your fluency between planes, deepening your structural stability, and embodying concepts that carry into any practice.

What You'll Experience:
Through three core focal points—tactility of the feet, integrated use of the spine, and increased depth of plié—you'll explore the full spectrum of embodied movement, from the floor to standing and everywhere in between.

Each day includes a thorough warm-up, a robust exploration of the movement concept of the day through both floorwork and standing work, and then time to connect it all into fluid, creative sequences. Bookending each day is time to reflect through written journaling and small group discussions.

Leave with:
– Lowered center of gravity—increase ease changing levels through strong, textural control of the legs
– Greater power, stability, agility, and trust in your feet—making both your floorwork and standing work more rooted and powerful
– A more intelligently articulated spine that supports fluid, expressive movement
– The ability to translate movement concepts seamlessly between floor and standing, with principles that apply to any discipline or practice

Our Approach:
We believe curiosity is our most powerful tool. Through detail-oriented practice, individualized feedback, journaling, and personal discovery, you'll leave with greater floorwork fluidity and vertical clarity. We create a lab environment where precision meets play—rigorous yet open, demanding yet supportive—always non-judgemental and non-competitive. You'll understand the why behind every movement choice, empowering you to make informed decisions about your body and artistry.

Level:
– Intermediate/Advanced level
– Participants should have at least 5+ years of dance experience and be comfortable learning longer sequences of choreography
– Ages 16+ (past workshop participant ages have ranged from 16-60 years old)

Housing / Accommodations for Out-of-Town Participants

There are plenty of great housing options near the ASU campus, including Airbnbs, hostels, bed & breakfasts, and hotels.

If you choose to stay farther from campus, Uber, Lyft, and Waymo are convenient options for getting around the Phoenix Valley and to the ASU campus.

Please note: the farther you stay from ASU and downtown Tempe, the more limited and time-consuming public transit can become. Plan accordingly to ensure smooth travel to the workshop each day.

🚗 Parking

We recommend the following parking options near the ASU Nelson Fine Arts Center:

  • ASU Gammage Parking Lots – $1.50 per hour

  • Mill Avenue Parking Garage – $16 for all-day parking

  • On- or Off-Campus Parking Garages – Visitor lots on the ASU campus are also available

  • Street Parking – Metered and free street parking is available nearby

While finding a parking spot is generally not difficult, finding the studio on campus can take time. We strongly recommend arriving at least 30 minutes early on your first day to allow time for parking and navigating to Studio #122 at the Nelson Fine Arts Center.

This project is partially funded by the City of Tempe – Community Arts Grant

Refund Policy
We do not offer refunds. If you can’t attend, you may request credit toward a future TRADE Lab workshop with advance written notice via email. We cannot provide partial refunds (e.g., registering for 3 days but attending only 2). Our workshops require significant planning—often involving guest artists—and rely on consistent registration to remain financially sustainable. Thank you for your understanding and support.
