Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Basic Training and Consultation Calls

TF-CBT Basic Training: 

Join us on November 5th and November 6th, 2026 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette - Picard Center for Child Development for Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Basic Training, an engaging two-day clinical training designed for mental health professionals seeking to strengthen their competency in delivering evidence-based trauma treatment to children and adolescents. This two day intensive will prepare clinicians for national certification in the TF-CBT model. The course will be led by TF-CBT trainer, Thomas Mitchell, LPC-S, NCC, a graduate of the TF-CBT Train the Trainer (TTT) Program. 

TF-CBT is widely recognized as the gold standard treatment for children and adolescents impacted by trauma and PTSD-related symptoms. This training is designed to equip clinicians with the foundational knowledge, clinical structure, and practical implementation skills necessary to effectively deliver TF-CBT with fidelity across diverse child and adolescent populations. Participants will receive instruction in the PRACTICE components of TF-CBT, including parenting,  psychoeducation, relaxation skills, affective modulation and regulation, cognitive coping, trauma narrative development and processing, in vivo mastery, conjoint caregiver-child sessions, and enhancing future safety. 

This live, in-person training will include interactive instruction, clinical application exercises, role play exercises, case examples, experiential activities, and opportunities to strengthen trauma-informed treatment skills through practical implementation strategies. Participants will also receive 12 additional consultation hours following the training to support continued competency development and application of the TF-CBT model in clinical practice.

Participants will strengthen their understanding of trauma assessment, caregiver engagement, gradual exposure strategies, maintaining TF-CBT treatment fidelity, and evidence-based trauma interventions designed to reduce symptomology and promote resilience and recovery.

Registration costs include both days of the Basic Training on November 5th and November 6th, lunch both days, snacks, drinks, coffee, all training materials and supplies, and an additional 12 hours of consultation calls following the training. Who Should Attend:

This training is appropriate for licensed  or provisionally licensed mental health professionals, social workers, counselors, psychologists, marriage and family therapists, school-based mental health professionals, and graduate-level interns working under appropriate clinical supervision. Participants should have an active caseload involving children or adolescents impacted by trauma. 

Required Pre-Requisite MUSC Self-Paced Training: 

Participants are required to complete TF-CBT Web 2.0 prior to attending the training. TF-CBT Web 2.0 is administered through the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC), requires approximately 10 hours to complete, and carries a separate registration fee of $35 through MUSC. CE Clock Hours

Participants must attend the entire training program to receive continuing education credit. Partial attendance, late arrivals, or early departures may result in forfeiture of CE credit in accordance with continuing education standards and approval requirements. As a component of the TF-CBT certification process, participants must agree to attend 12 consultation calls following the basic training.

This program was approved for 13 clinical contact hours of continuing education credit by the National Association of Social Workers – Louisiana Chapter as authorized by the Louisiana State Board of Social Work Examiners.

This workshop has been approved 13.0 CE clock hours in Diagnosis by the Louisiana Counseling Association as authorized by the Louisiana Mental Health Law (R.S.37:1101-1123).

Cancellation & Attendance Policy

Registrations for this training are fully refundable or transferable up to sixty (60) days prior to the training date.

If a participant cancels registration between thirty-one (31) and fifty-nine (59) days prior to the training date, the participant will receive a credit equal to fifty percent (50%) of the registration fee toward a future training offered by the organizers. Training credits must be used within twelve (12) months of the original training date and are non-transferable. No refunds or credits will be issued for cancellations made thirty (30) days or less prior to the training date.

In certain circumstances, including documented medical emergencies or other extenuating circumstances, exceptions to this policy may be considered at the sole discretion of the training organizers. If a registered participant is unable to attend, substitution requests may be submitted in writing and will be reviewed based on eligibility requirements and training capacity.

Participants must attend all training sessions in their entirety to receive a certificate of completion. Partial attendance may result in forfeiture of continuing education credit and may affect eligibility for TF-CBT certification requirements. Registration includes access to consultation sessions associated with the training. Failure to attend consultation sessions does not entitle the participant to a refund, credit, or makeup session unless otherwise approved by the organizers.

Seat Reservation Deposit Policy

Participants may reserve a seat in the TF-CBT Basic Training by submitting the required Seat Reservation Deposit. The deposit will be applied toward the total registration fee and reserves the participant's place in the training pending payment of the remaining balance.

The Seat Reservation Deposit is nonrefundable. The remaining registration balance must be paid in full no later than September 21, 2026. Registrations with an outstanding balance after this date may be canceled by the training organizers, and the reserved seat may be offered to another participant. In such cases, the reservation deposit will be forfeited.

The Seat Reservation Deposit is not transferable to another individual or to a future training. Exceptions to this policy, including documented medical emergencies or other extenuating circumstances, may be considered at the sole discretion of the training organizers.

Payment of a reservation deposit does not waive any training prerequisites or attendance requirements. Participants remain responsible for satisfying all registration requirements, including completion of the required TF-CBT Web 2.0 prerequisite training by the stated deadline.
