Threshold Education Presents: BDSM 101
Time: 3pm-5pm
Cost: Free to members, $20 for nonmembers
Curious about BDSM but not sure where to start? This introductory class is designed for beginners and the simply curious; no prior experience required. We’ll demystify the basics in a grounded, respectful environment, focusing on what matters most: safety, consent, communication, and care.
What you’ll learn:
• Core Concepts & Terminology: Understanding the spectrum of BDSM, common roles (such as Dominant, submissive, Switch, Top, and Bottom), core tenets of BDSM and what they look like in practice.
• Consent Best Practices: How to negotiate clearly, give and receive enthusiastic consent, and recognize that consent can be withdrawn at any time, for any reason.
• Communication Skills: Discussing desires, limits, boundaries, and expectations before, during, and after any interaction.
• Safety Essentials: Risk awareness, basic safety practices, and why “risk-aware consensual kink” (RACK), PRICK (Personal Responsibility/Informed Consensual Kink), and the term “safe, sane, consensual” (SSC) are guiding frameworks, not guarantees.
• Lifestyle Etiquette: Honoring personal limits, respecting everyone’s autonomy, and the importance of maintaining privacy and discretion within the community.
• Aftercare & Emotional Wellbeing: Understanding the physical and emotional comedown, and how to support yourself and your partner(s) after playing
• Connections and Next Steps: We will help introduce you to others, recommend newcomer-friendly events, and provide resources as you begin your kink journey. The Threshold Social takes place immediately following this class and is open to non-members, and is a great way to meet others in a friendly, casual environment.
This class prioritizes informed choice and mutual respect. Open discussion with the group will be encouraged.
