About this Workshop

This 1.5 hour workshop gives you an introduction and overview of the most relevant parts of the cloud-native geospatial technology stack. Plus, your ticket includes access to the thriveGEO community for geospatial professionals for 21 days! 

This workshop is a preview of thriveGEO's upcoming course on Geospatial Cloud Computing.

After the workshop, you will be able to:

1. Differentiate between various cloud services and their offerings
2. Understand terms and concepts from the cloud-native geospatial technology stack, such as STAC, COG, ZARR, Dask, etc.

Introductions

Intro to clouds and cloud offerings (+ Q&A)

• What is the cloud and what does cloud-native mean? You will also get a digest of different service providers and their offerings, plus a glimpse into geospatial cloud platforms like Google Earth Engine and Microsoft Planetary Computer.

Cloud-native technology stack and skills (+ Q&A)

• We will introduce important concepts and terms from the cloud-native technology stack such as data formats and libraries you will encounter. In addition, we will provide a list of top skills you need to use cloud-native technology.

Self-Assessment

• Let's see how much you've learned so far!

Workshop Notebooks

• This workshop comes with a set of Jupyter Notebooks / scripts that show simple workflows for working with cloud-native data and technology. We will introduce them and show you how you can run them. For more in-depth practice, we recommend signing up for the upcoming geospatial cloud computing course where we will go into more detail!
