Live Browsing Sentinel Zarr – EOPF Explorer Launch Webinar

Mon 9 Mar 2026 15:00 - 16:00 CET Online, Zoom

Join ESA, Development Seed, EOX, and thriveGEO for the official launch of the EOPF Sentinel Zarr Explorer – a new platform bringing cloud-native visualisation to Sentinel data.

What You Will Learn

Instant, Browser-Native Visualisation

See GeoZarr in action: pan through Sentinel imagery, switch spectral bands, and apply dynamic calculations. Do all this in real-time, directly in your browser! Say goodbye to waiting, downloads and preprocessing. Plus, you can look under the hood and see how we’ve built this.

Real Demonstrations

Watch as we showcase the complete user journey from discovery through to storytelling, including:

  • Intuitive STAC-based data browsing

  • Rapid screening with custom band combinations

  • Real-world applications:
    • Data in the browser with OpenLayers.
    • Advanced server-side visualisation with TiTiler.

Why It Matters

Zarr is the planned future distribution format for Copernicus Sentinel data. Built on the new Zarr Conventions and the upcoming OGC GeoZarr specifications, the Explorer demonstrates how cloud-native Zarr enables fast, efficient data access and quick visualisation.

Built with open-source technology such as TiTiler, GDAL, OpenLayers, and STAC, the enhanced GeoZarr format includes web-optimised chunking, consolidated pyramids, and geospatial metadata that enables seamless browser-based visualisation.

Be Part of the Change

Zarr is excellent news for the Earth observation community. With growing adoption and ecosystem support, this is your opportunity to engage with its development.

The EOPF Explorer is a community-driven project. Your voice shapes how Sentinel data will be accessed in the future. We welcome you to try the new format & software any time on the project website and with our sample data catalogue (links below). In April, we will walk you through how to do this and offer live support in an online workshop. Stay tuned!

Who Should Attend

  • Earth observation data users and researchers

  • Data scientists interested in cloud-native workflows

  • Web developers creating geospatial applications

  • Anyone curious about the future of Copernicus data distribution
