Bass Room Sessions: An Evening with Charlie Pyne, David Gordon & Bill Pamplin

Bass Room Sessions is our new concert series, featuring performances from top-tier jazz ensembles, classical recitals, and singer-songwriters. Each event is a unique opportunity to see a wonderful mix of musician up close in an intimate space. From internationally acclaimed musicians to emerging talent, you are guaranteed an immersive musical experience. It’s not just a concert; it’s a shared moment between artist and listener.

The first concert in our series features three stellar jazz musicians who are coming together to perform for the first time.

Charlie Pyne is a renowned jazz bassist. Having graduated from Guildhall in 2009, she has since collaborated with a wide range of leading figures in jazz such as Yazz Ahmed, Noel Langley, Zoe Rahman, Brigitte Beraha, Shirley Smart, Karen Street, Nikki Isles, Sophie Alloway, Tori Freestone, Ilario Ferrari, Alcyona Mick and Martin France to name just a few. She has also performed in iconic stages around the UK such as Royal Festival Hall, Ronnie Scott’s, the Purcell Room, Pizza Express Jazz Club, and Jazz In The Round and last year released her second full length studio album Nature Is A Mother. David Gordon is the founder of Oxhey Sounds and is a wonderful jazz pianist, harpischord player and composer. His trio "The David Gordon Trio" is known for pushing the boundaries of contemporary jazz music by incorporating bebop, Argentinian zamba, Bach paraphrase or a nursery rhyme into their performances. This is the fourth time David has performed in our Bass Room and as the inspiration for our concert series we are excited to invite him to play with us again. Bill Pamplin is an accomplished drummer and bassist, having been a part of NYJO in his youth and being a professional session player with some of the finest jazz musicians in the UK, but is best known in the Watford area as the Director of Thwaites Fine Stringed Instruments! His expertise in fine stringed instruments is next to none, but if you would like to see a different side to him than you would see in the shop then come see him behind the drum kit.
