See Ya Next Tuesday, Tile League

Join us for LKN's first Mahjong League! You’ve got your gym days. You’ve got your pickleball league. Now it’s time to add Mahjong to the mix. Four weeks of strategy, fun, and community—your brain’s going to love it.

Please read below league information before committing to ensure this scene is a good fit for you!

We’ll have everything set up and ready—just bring your 2026 NMJL card and your love for the game. You will play with a variety of tiles from various designers. 

Please note this is not a lesson—players should already know how to play American Mahjong and be familiar with NMJL rules. We're stepping this up a notch for this season, our goal is to complete four games within the 90 minute time block. Keeping up with the pace of the table is expected,  but more importantly—be a fun, kind person to play with. Competitiveness is welcome, but rudeness is not. 

League Specific Information:

• You are committing to 4-weeks of mahjong play, there are no refunds provided for a missed week. Dates: September 29, October 6, October 13 and October 20.
• Arrive 5-10 minutes early, game play begins promptly at 6:30pm.
• While you’re welcome to sign up with friends, tables will be randomly assigned each week—so you might not play at the same table. Each player will draw for their seat when they arrive. It’s all part of the Mahjong magic: making new connections, building community, and having a great time together!
• There will be prizes each week! 
  • If you show up, you will receive 1 raffle ticket. 
  • Each winning Mahjong will receive 3 raffle tickets. 
  • Raffles will be drawn at 8pm each night, game play can still continue and those raffle tickets can be saved for the next week.
• Scorecards will be provided. Mahjong League scoring:
  • Wall games will receive 10 points for each player.
  • Winner will receive the value of the line on the card plus:
    • If jokerless, +20 points
    • If you draw your winning tile organically (from the wall), +10 points
    • If a player wins mahjong off a player's discarded tile, the discarder receives -10 points
      • Example A: Winning line is 35 points. You have jokers as part of your line (+0) and you drew your own tile from the wall, NOT a discarded tile (+10). You will receive 45 points.
      • Example B: Winning line is 25 points. You have no jokers as part of your line (+10) and you drew your winning tile organically (+10). You will receive 45 points.
      • Example C: Winning line is 20 points. You have no jokers as part of your line (+10) and your winning tile was called from the last discard. Player A (winner) would receive 30 points and Player B who discarded would receive -10 points.
  • Negative points do not roll over week over week. If you end your week with a negative score, you will begin the following week with 0. 
  • The league member to end the season with the most points will win the grand prize - a mahjong tile set!
  • To encourage you to play the full card, you will track your winning lines each week. I will provide the tracking sheets, but it is your responsibility to document your wins! At the end of the season, the player with the most line diversity will receive a prize!
• Blanks will not be played for league games, 8 jokers will be played. 
• Tables that do not meet the goal of completing all 4 games, will only record scores for completed games. Tables that complete all 4 games with time remaining, will not record additional scores. 5th and subsequent games are only eligible for tracking towards the line diversity prize. 
• If we do not sell tickets in increments of 4, you may be placed at a table of 3 where the Charleston is omitted per NMJL rules.
• You are encouraged to support the host venue - snacks, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. 
• If the league sells out, we will begin a wait list for subs who can fill in for a league member who is unable to attend. The sub points will go towards the league member's score they are playing for. If the league does not sell out, you are able to send a friend in your place to play on your behalf.

Note: Minimum of 12 tickets required to be sold, if less than 12 tickets are sold ticket refunds will be provided by event organizer. Tickets are non-refundable and non-transferable. Each table needs a set number of players, so every seat counts! We’re all about good vibes—respectful, inclusive, and friendly play is a must. If that’s not your scene, no hard feelings—we’ll catch you another time!
