Description
ChoreoWreck LAB
***Currently on hold***
12pm - 4pm
Dorothea Laub Dance Place in Liberty Station
ChoreoWreck LAB is a choreography workshop for dance artists of all genres who are interested in dance making, who want to develop their own choreographic voice, and who are eager to practice and hone their choreographic and editing skills.
The 4 hour workshop divides into three sections with breaks in between.
- The first section includes introductions and a warm-up. We'll get to know each other and review the order of events. Then we'll prepare for movement by getting our bodies heated and our joints greased up.
- The second section focuses on generating movement and creating phrases. Various prompts are introduced in order to initiate movements unique to each individual. We then discuss and implement multiple choreographic tools, used to play with and manipulate the generated movements. Finally, we combine those movements and develop them into phrases.
- The third section is dedicated to workshopping each other's phrases through facilitated mini "wreckings" and sharing the outcomes. This highly useful choreographic process not only provides participants with unique insight into their ideas, but also helps develop editing skills. Learn more about "wrecking".
Each month's session will be it's own unique stand alone workshop - one workshop is not dependent upon the previous. In each workshop, we introduce and implement different prompts and tools. Participants will glean something different with each workshop, building and adding to their choreographic toolbox.
For the moment, these workshops will focus primarily on solo work. Of course, any of the generated phrases can be adapted to group work. We may spend a little time on movement and composition tools for groups (duets, trios, etc.), but that will not be the focus. If interest arises, we may address group work in future workshops.
