Handbuilt Pottery Planters: A 6-Week Pottery Course
Spring is here and it's the perfect time to get creative with some beautiful planters for your plants! This 6-week course will introduce you to handbuilding pottery, where you'll learn to craft stunning planters in various sizes.
What you'll learn:
- Week 1: Introduction to Slab Building: We'll begin by diving into the fundamentals of slab building, a handbuilding technique that uses rolled-out clay to create unique forms. You'll build a small planter, getting comfortable with cutting, shaping, and connecting clay slabs.
- Week 2: Putting Your Skills into Practice: Building on week one, we'll create a larger planter, further solidifying your slab building skills.
- Weeks 3 & 4: Building a Masterpiece - Large Planter with Surface Design: Buckle up for a project that will challenge and inspire you! We'll embark on creating a large planter, focusing on incorporating various surface design elements and textures to add personality and visual interest to your work.
- Week 5: Unveiling Your Inner Artist - Surface Design & Underglaze: Delve deeper into the world of surface design! This week will be dedicated to exploring various techniques for decorating your clay creations, including the artistic use of underglazes, colored slips used to add vibrant designs to your work.
- Week 6: Glazing Magic: It's time to bring your planters to life! In our final week, you'll select glazes (included!) to enhance your creations, transforming them into functional works of art. We'll discuss glaze application techniques and prepare your planters for the final kiln firing.
