Thu Jan 23, 2025 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM
TinkerMill Woodshop, 80501
Description
In this class you will use wood shop equipment to create an edge grain cutting board approximately 10” x 16” x 1 1/4”. You will transform lumber as received from the sawmill into a finished cutting board. No experience required. Safety glasses, hearing protection, and dust masks are provided. No loose clothing, jewelry. Long hair tied back and closed toed shoes required. You will be using professional level equipment. 15+ only (all minors must be accompanied by a legal guardian).
Day 1:
Cut the lumber to rough length with the miter saw.
You will use the jointer/planer to make the lumber smooth, flat and square.
The table saw will create the strips that will be glued together. Some strips will be re-sawn to narrow strips on the bandsaw to create accent strips to add interest.
The drum sander will remove saw marks when necessary.
Arranging the strips to create your own pattern, gluing and clamping the strips together ends Day 1.
Day 2 (Day 2 will be scheduled at the time of the first session, also a two-hour session)
After the glue dries, your cutting board is flattened and surfaced to final thickness on the jointer/planer.
Use a router to add a radius to the corners.
Sand with random orbital sanders to make the surface smooth.
Applying food safe oil to seal the board.
Take your cutting board home and enjoy! A container of board conditioner is included in the purchase price for ongoing maintenance of your creation.
