Sewing 101: Introduction to Domestic Sewing Machines & Certification

This certification class introduces the fundamentals of using a domestic sewing machine. You’ll gain hands-on experience and the confidence to tackle your own projects. No previous sewing experience is needed. Come curious and leave capable!

Completion of Sewing 101 is required before any member may use a domestic sewing machine independently in the Textiles Shop. It is also a prerequisite for other sewing classes offered at TinkerMill. Ages 14+ (all minors require adult supervision).

What You'll Learn:
‣ Sewing Machine Basics: Familiarize yourself with the essential features and functions of a Singer HD 6600C.
‣ Basic Stitches and Techniques: Learn fundamental stitches and how to adjust stitch length, width, and tension + fun with fancy stitches!
‣ Materials and Notions: Understand how to choose the best thread and needle for your project.
‣ Oops, What Now: Basic troubleshooting and machine limitations

What's Included:
‣ All equipment, notions, and handouts.

What to Bring:
‣ A notebook if you wish to take additional notes. 
‣ Optional: A beverage in a covered container and/or a snack to refuel. 
‣ Not Optional: Your creativity and curiosity.
