Foundry Open Office Hours
Foundry Office Hours are open to both TinkerMill members and non-members alike! Come stop by and talk with the shop captains--we'll be there in the shop to help anyone who shows up with whatever they want, including but not limited to:
- Help with a personal project/ideas
- Just get some practice pours in/refresh your knowledge on working in the shop
- Complete remaining Foundry 101 pours to finish your certification (must have taken the course before but does not matter how long ago that was)
- Come check out the new equipment in the shop and hear about what we have planned
- Tell us what shop-changes/new classes/ideas you have/want to see
- Come buy some metal for your next project--we have aluminum and now bronze too!
Walk-ins day-of are welcome! You do not need to have a ticket to join.
Safety: Everyone in the shop must be wearing safety glasses at all times (we have plenty in the shop for you to use but feel free to bring your own).
Additionally, anyone inside the hot shop section must have all of the further required PPE, including wearing exclusively non-synthetic clothing, spats, apron, heat gloves, and a face shield. A respirator may also be required depending on the situation (e.g. working with metals other than aluminum, working with investment, etc.).
Costs: Shop fees are waived during office hours, and we are covering any propane costs during office hours. A great opportunity to get some free practice pours in!
Prerequisites: You do NOT need to be certified in the shop to join for office hours. However, in order to enter/do anything in the hot shop section you will at least need to have taken Foundry 101 before (if you have taken Foundry 101 before and did not complete your 4 requisite pours for certification you will be allowed into the hot shop section to complete these pours under the supervision of a shop captain).
*Minors ages 15-17 may use the shop but must have a certified legal guardian present with them in the shop at all times.
**Everyone in the shop will need to have signed a TinkerMill waiver before--you can do this at the front desk.
