Tiny Glass Tavern presents:

Of Reclamation and Joy:

A Celebration of Womanhood

Saturday March 15th 2025 at 5pm - Followed by a reception

Museum of Modern Renaissance, 115 College Ave, Somerville MA

Our program is a celebration of the healing power of female creativity as artists, mothers, and gods. An emotional journey of strength, joy, resilience, lifelong passion and deepest tenderness, our program reasserts the role of creativity, nurturing and compassion as essential forces for good in a time of deep fractiousness in our world. The centerpiece of our program is an extraordinary setting of the Stabat Mater by Alessandro Scarlatti, whose 300th anniversary of death we commemorate this year, and who sets a nuanced portrait of Mary and her emotional journey as a mother witnessing the crucifixion of her son. Surrounding the Scarlatti is a wide-ranging illustration of female creativity in song, ranging from masterful Baroque works by Barbara Strozzi, Elizabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, and Chiara Margarita Cozzolani to the more contemporary works of Rebecca Nelson, and Adam Simon with his “Song for Saint Cecilia’s Day” celebrating the patron musicians, as well as songs made famous by Sarah Vaughan and Edith Piaf.
