Description
TOAST Live
TOAST is about really good poetry. An evening of spoken word and live performance, TOAST is Norfolk’s biggest regular poetry night. We’re an artist-led organisation who find the best poets working right now and bring them to Norwich. At TOAST you will laugh, cry and find something you like (even if you don’t think you like poetry). Funny, emotional and entertaining, this is a great night out for everyone.
In September 2023, we have three of our favourite poets visiting from all around the country. Kareem Parkins Brown is a former Roundhouse Slam champion, poet and theatre maker. We've known Kareem for years, toured with him in schools, and every time we fizz with excitement that a new audience gets to see what he can create on stage. Alongside him is former Nottingham City Poet Laureate Georgina Wilding. She's funny, astute, political and has this way of noticing things in her poems that make you hum, or gasp or laugh. Her first collection 'Hag Stone' was published by Verve Poetry Press and it's astonishingly good. Padraig Regan complete the bill - currently a Fellow Commoner in Creative Arts at Cambridge, their first collection 'Some Integrity' (Carcanet) made us weep. It's so beautiful and was shortlisted for the Forward Prize for best first collection. Together, these three poets represent the best of what is happening in the UK right now!
TOAST is produced by Daisy Henwood and hosted by the award winning poet, Lewis Buxton.
