Blanc Sceol:

Blanc Sceol (Stephen Shiell & Hannah White) will be performing ‘Kinetic Resonance’ with the ‘Orbit’, in a continuation of their collaboration with this self-created instrument. Orbit is a decagon-shaped instrument played by the two musicians simultaneously. The body is spun by one set of hands, as the other hands hold a bow to the ten strings. As the two musicians work together the Orbit leads them into a cosmos of dynamic, pitch-shifting drones and harmonic rhythms.

Blanc Sceol are an artist duo who work in the expanded field of listening, sound, and performance. They instigate participatory gatherings to foster a reciprocal relationship with ecological communities. Their work is a spiral within the space-time continuum.

Julia Dèng Hànzú:

Julia Dèng Hànzú, born in Chongqing, China and now living in London, is a multimedia artist/experimental musician/sound therapist with mixed educational backgrounds in Design and Economics who practises a post-disciplinary approach.

Her works, featuring frequent use of sound, include but are not limited to the form of performances, installations, audios, moving/static images, texts and curated events, while inner emotions as reflection to the outer concrete/abstract environment are recurring themes.

Under the influence of her training in traditional Chinese instruments like guzheng, pipa, ruan from the age of 8, Julia applies extended techniques on a variety of plucked-string instruments, frequently combined with electronics and objects or other art forms. She is interested in textures and spaces, and devotes to explore the physicality and locality within live performances.

Julia had performed in many cities including London, Huddersfield, Cardiff, Ruthin, Aberdeen, Berlin, Freiburg, Trier, Luxemburg etc, and just finished a full China tour in June this year. She is also the composer for Burnt Butterfly 2.0, a 2024 Edinburgh Festival Fringe production. Her performative installation work Con-current: Tuning Intervals had previously been exhibited at the White Chapel Gallery and was commented by Mialondonblog as ‘having simultaneously bridged the gap between analogue and digital technologies and created a cultural bridge between China and Europe’.

Leopards on Leashes:

The collaborative improvisational project with an ever-changing ensemble of Martyn Riley (Tokoro23).

For this iteration Martyn brings together Loreal Prystaj, Rupert Austin (Jung Latch) and Jeremy Kent.

Martyn Riley (Tokoro23)

Martyn Riley is a London-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice is rooted in sound, yet extends across diverse materials and environments. By intersecting with various disciplines, Riley explores the interplay between the personal, political, and physical. Their work delves into themes of memory, history, and the ephemeral nature of experience, deconstructing subjects to create ambiguous and thought-provoking abstractions. Through this process, Riley aims to stimulate discourse, provoke reactions, and offer alternative perspectives on the contemporary world.

Martyn Riley / Jeremy Kent - Mutations

Loreal Prystaj's work delves into themes of alchemy, exploring the cycles of life, death, and rebirth within the realms of consciousness and mysticism. Through a multidisciplinary approach encompassing photography, moving images, sculpture, and sound, she weaves storytelling with self-portraiture to examine the intricate connections between nature, the body, and the psyche. Her process is deeply rooted in psychoanalysis, archetypal symbolism, and surrealism, drawing inspiration from dreams, mythology, and sacred texts.

Graduating with an MA in Photography from the Royal College of Art in 2019, Prystaj's work has been exhibited internationally, including at Photo London (2020-2022), Arles Photo Festival (2018), LifeFramer's travelling exhibition (2017), and MIA Art Fair (2016). She has participated in artist residencies worldwide, such as the SWAP UK/Ukraine Artist Residency (2019/2020) with Arts Council England, and most recently, she was invited to create a sculptural installation at Mellemrummet and HOLME Kunsthal in Denmark (2023).

In recognition of her work, Prystaj has been shortlisted for the Queen Elizabeth Trust Fund (2022), nominated for 100 Heroines by the Royal Photography Society (2019), and has received numerous awards, including the London Ashurst Art Prize (2018) and the ArtSlant Award (2017). Her work has been published in The Guardian, L’Œil de la Photographie, and Aesthetica, among others.

Jeremy Kent is an artist based in London exploring Archival Impulses (H. Foster) and the potential of sound through spatial, three-dimensional artworks. In previous works such as Lungs (2022), Radio Transplants (2023) and Measurements (2023), Jeremy has examined the possibilities of sound and its ability to allow for a sensuous making of meaning, attempting to understand our physical and social environment through audience participation and live performance.

Rupert Austin:

Operating out of his East London studio, Maltese/Irish producer Jung Latch uses every bit of his musical upbringing to craft his sound. The artist utilises an array of modular gear, 8-bit samplers and generative algorithms to experiment with glitched out breakbeats and constantly evolving textures, creating a sound that feels otherworldly and unstable before drowning it in sugary pop melodies
