Open Studio Friday Salon #1 - 3rd July 5-7pm

Join us for the first in a series of relaxed Friday Salons, harking back to Feliks Topolski's own legendary Open Studio Fridays. These salons hark back to Feliks Topolski’s own legendary Open Studio Fridays, regularly held in his South Bank Arch. The Open Studio was indeed completely open and accessible, with guests ranging from Indira Gandhi, Mick Jagger and Allen Ginsberg, to Prince Philip, passing hippies, or the homeless residents of the neighbouring arches.

The inaugural salon offers an intimate introduction to the life and work of Feliks Topolski, a chance to look at his iconic Chronicles, and the unique studio space where it all happened.

Join our Archivist Cecilia Borgenstam, and Artist in Residence Alice Angus to explore Topolski's distinctive reportage techniques, take a closer look at how these dynamic drawings were created and are now archived, and dive into the tools he used to capture the 20th century.

There will be an opportunity to get hands on with Topolski's work and creative principles, looking at the ways in which Feliks captured energy, atmosphere and motion, and how he used that fearless, expressionist line to tell stories. 

The event is FREE but booking is essential.
